Position Summary

The Executive Director (ED) reports to the Board of Directors and is responsible for the overall leadership, strategic direction, and management of the organization.

The ED ensures effective program delivery, strengthens institutional systems, mobilizes resources, builds partnerships, and represents ADRO at both national and international levels with integrity and vision.

Key Responsibilities

1. Strategic Leadership & Governance

  • Provide overall leadership and strategic vision
  • Ensure alignment with ADRO’s mission, vision, and goals
  • Work closely with the Board to develop and implement policies and strategies
  • Ensure governance, accountability, and regulatory compliance

2. Program Development & Management

  • Oversee design, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of programs
  • Ensure program quality, impact, and relevance
  • Strengthen technical capacity across thematic areas

3. Resource Mobilization & Proposal Development

  • Lead development of high-quality proposals and concept notes
  • Identify funding opportunities from donors
  • Strengthen proposal development systems and tools
  • Coordinate internal teams and partners for submissions
  • Build and maintain donor relationships

4. Financial Management

  • Ensure financial accountability and transparency
  • Approve budgets and oversee financial planning
  • Diversify funding sources and ensure sustainability
  • Monitor efficient utilization of resources

5. Human Resource & Organizational Development

  • Lead and manage senior staff and teams
  • Foster a positive and inclusive organizational culture
  • Strengthen HR systems and performance management
  • Support staff development and capacity building

6. Partnerships, Networking & Representation

  • Represent ADRO with donors, government, UN agencies, and partners
  • Build strong collaborations with stakeholders
  • Advocate for ADRO’s mission and influence relevant policies

Required Qualifications and Experience

  • Master’s degree in Development Studies, Social Sciences, Public Administration, Business Management, or related field
    (Bachelor’s degree with extensive experience may be considered)
  • Minimum 8 years of progressive leadership experience
  • At least 5 years in senior management within NGO/INGO sector
  • Proven experience in program management and donor engagement
  • Strong understanding of Somalia’s humanitarian and development context
  • Experience in strategic planning and financial oversight
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills
  • Fluency in English and Somali (written and spoken)
