Job Overview
The Machine Learning Engineer will design, develop, and deploy scalable machine learning models that address real‑world challenges for Google’s products and services in the region. Working closely with data scientists, product managers, and software engineers, you will translate business requirements into robust algorithms, ensure model performance, and maintain high standards of data privacy and ethical AI. This position is central to Google’s strategy of delivering localized solutions, such as language translation, predictive analytics for agriculture, and intelligent search experiences for Somali users. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement machine learning pipelines for data ingestion, preprocessing, model training, and deployment.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to define problem statements, success metrics, and data requirements.
- Optimize models for performance, scalability, and low latency on Google Cloud Platform.
- Conduct rigorous A/B testing, validation, and monitoring to ensure model reliability.
- Document code, experiments, and findings to promote knowledge sharing across the organization.
- Stay current with state‑of‑the‑art research and integrate novel techniques where applicable.
Required Skills
- Proficiency in Python and libraries such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, or scikit‑learn.
- Strong understanding of statistical modeling, deep learning architectures, and natural language processing.
- Experience with cloud services, preferably Google Cloud AI/ML tools.
- Ability to work with large, unstructured datasets and implement data pipelines.
- Excellent problem‑solving skills and a collaborative mindset.
- Effective communication in English; knowledge of Somali is a plus.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees (MSc or PhD) are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience building and deploying machine learning solutions in production environments. Prior experience in emerging markets, especially within Africa, will be valued.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from 8,000,000 to 12,000,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and expertise. Salary is paid in Somali Shilling and includes performance‑based bonuses.
