Job Overview
The Insurance Underwriter will evaluate risk, determine appropriate coverage terms, and price policies for a diverse portfolio of clients in Somalia. Working closely with brokers, agents, and the claims department, the successful candidate will ensure that underwriting decisions align with AXA’s risk appetite and profitability goals. Key Responsibilities
- Assess applications for property, casualty, and marine insurance, analyzing risk factors and historical data.
- Develop and recommend underwriting guidelines that balance risk exposure with market competitiveness.
- Collaborate with sales teams and brokers to structure customized insurance solutions for corporate and individual clients.
- Prepare detailed underwriting reports, including pricing models, policy terms, and conditions.
- Monitor portfolio performance, identify trends, and recommend adjustments to maintain profitability.
- Ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements and AXA’s internal policies.
- Participate in client meetings to explain coverage options and address underwriting queries.
Required Skills
- Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in risk assessment and actuarial concepts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Somali is an advantage.
- Proficiency with underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Negotiation skills to work effectively with brokers and clients.
- Attention to detail and ability to manage multiple cases simultaneously.
- Ethical judgment and commitment to confidentiality.
Education
A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Business Administration, Risk Management, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as CPCU, ARM, or equivalent are highly desirable and demonstrate a commitment to the insurance profession.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of underwriting experience, preferably within property and casualty lines. Experience in emerging markets, especially in East Africa, will be considered a strong asset, as it aligns with AXA’s focus on expanding career opportunities in Somalia.
Salary
AXA offers a competitive salary range of SSP 3,500,000 to SSP 5,000,000 per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The compensation package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a retirement savings plan.
