Job Overview
This role is part of a new initiative to establish integrated waste management systems in Las Anod. The Waste Management and Recycling Coordinator will lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of municipal solid waste collection, sorting, and recycling programs. The position requires collaboration with local authorities, community leaders, and international stakeholders to ensure compliance with environmental regulations and community needs. This is a strategic opportunity to shape Somalia’s waste management infrastructure while contributing to global climate action targets.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute comprehensive waste management strategies for Las Anod municipality
- Coordinate with local government agencies to establish waste collection schedules and recycling hubs
- Design public awareness campaigns on waste segregation and recycling practices
- Monitor waste processing facilities and ensure compliance with environmental standards
- Partner with private sector stakeholders to develop recycling value chains
- Prepare regular reports on waste management performance and environmental impact
Required Skills
- Proven experience in municipal waste management or environmental project coordination
- Strong understanding of waste-to-energy technologies and recycling processes
- Excellent stakeholder engagement and community outreach skills
- Fluency in Somali and English
- Ability to work in remote and resource-constrained environments

Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Public Health, or related field
- Master’s degree preferred (Environmental Management or Urban Planning)
Experience
- 3-5 years in environmental management or waste management
- Previous experience in Somalia or other East African countries is a significant advantage
Salary
1,500,000 – 2,500,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
