Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled and visionary Senior Urban Planner to join our growing team in Beledweyne. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of comprehensive urban master plans and zoning regulations for expanding municipalities.
  • Conduct detailed demographic, economic, and environmental impact assessments to inform land-use decisions.
  • Collaborate with civil engineers and environmental scientists to integrate green infrastructure into urban designs.
  • Facilitate public consultation sessions to ensure community needs are represented in planning decisions.
  • Manage multi-disciplinary teams to deliver complex infrastructure projects on time and within budget.
  • Ensure all planning activities comply with both Somali national standards and international sustainability benchmarks.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and AutoCAD software.
  • Deep understanding of land-use laws, zoning regulations, and urban design principles.
  • Exceptional project management skills with experience handling large-scale municipal projects.
  • Strong communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders, from government ministers to local residents.
  • Analytical thinking and the ability to interpret complex spatial data sets.

Education

A Master’s degree in Urban Planning, Regional Planning, City Planning, or a closely related field of Civil Engineering is mandatory. A Bachelor’s degree with significant professional experience may be considered in exceptional circumstances.

Experience

Candidates must possess a minimum of 5 to 7 years of professional experience in urban planning or large-scale infrastructure development. Proven experience working in emerging markets or developing urban environments is highly desirable. Experience in the East African region is a significant advantage.

Salary

The monthly salary for this position is competitive and ranges from 4,500,000 SSP to 6,200,000 SSP, depending on the candidate’s experience and technical expertise. This package is designed to attract top-tier talent to this vital role.
