Job Overview

The Wind Turbine Maintenance Engineer will play a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance, safety, and reliability of wind turbine assets located in the Kismayo region. Reporting to the Operations Manager, the engineer will lead on‑site maintenance activities, troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues, and coordinate with cross‑functional teams to implement preventive maintenance strategies. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct routine inspections, diagnostics, and corrective maintenance on wind turbine generators, gearboxes, blades, and control systems.
• Develop and execute preventive maintenance schedules to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan.
• Analyze fault data, perform root‑cause analysis, and implement effective remediation measures.
• Collaborate with local contractors, suppliers, and regulatory bodies to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, service reports, and inventory logs using Vestas’ digital asset management platform.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technicians and local maintenance crews.
• Participate in commissioning, testing, and performance verification of new turbine installations.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives by recommending upgrades, spare parts optimization, and process enhancements.

Required Skills

• Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities with hands‑on experience in wind turbine systems.
• Proficiency in reading schematics, PLC programming, and SCADA interfaces.
• Excellent problem‑solving skills and ability to work under pressure in remote locations.
• Effective communication skills in English; knowledge of Somali or Arabic is an advantage.
• Ability to lead teams, manage projects, and coordinate with multiple stakeholders.
• Commitment to safety protocols and environmental stewardship.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Wind Turbine Technician (CWT) or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience

Minimum of five (5) years of experience in wind turbine maintenance, offshore or on‑shore, with a proven track record of reducing downtime and improving turbine availability. Experience working in challenging environments and familiarity with international safety standards (e.g., ISO 45001) are essential.

Salary

The successful candidate will receive a competitive salary ranging from 4,500,000 to 6,500,000 SSP per year, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional performance‑based incentives may be offered.
