Job Purpose
The Driver Light will facilitate safe transportation of staff, visitors, documents, and goods within assigned operational areas. The role requires strict adherence to ICRC transport guidelines, road safety measures, vehicle maintenance procedures, and national traffic laws.
The successful candidate will contribute to secure humanitarian operations by ensuring efficient transportation support and vehicle readiness.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Transport & Staff Movement
- Facilitate safe transportation of staff and official visitors within assigned regions
- Pick up and drop off personnel from airports, field offices, and operational areas
- Support immigration, customs formalities, and local travel requirements when required
- Ensure passenger safety and security throughout travel
Vehicle Operations & Road Safety
- Monitor road conditions and provide updates regarding road safety and security situations
- Confirm travel authorization before departure for all scheduled trips
- Follow ICRC transport guidelines and national traffic regulations
- Ensure compliance with vehicle safety standards and operational procedures
Vehicle Maintenance & Inspection
- Conduct routine vehicle inspections before trips
- Ensure daily vehicle cleanliness and maintenance
- Report vehicle defects, missing equipment, or accidents immediately to supervisors
- Maintain fueling schedules and vehicle operational readiness
- Ensure availability of vehicle insurance, logbook, tools, spare parts, first aid kit, and route maps
Documentation & Logistics Support
- Complete vehicle log sheets for every official trip
- Collect and deliver official mail, documents, and items to assigned destinations
- Ensure goods are loaded safely according to local and international safety standards
Education Requirements
Applicants must possess:
- Secondary School Certificate (High School Education)
- Additional driving or transport-related certifications will be considered an advantage
Experience Requirements
- Minimum 4 years of work experience as a Driver, preferably in volatile or high-risk regions
- Previous experience in an NGO, humanitarian, or emergency response setting is highly desirable
- Experience operating 4×4 vehicles, automatic and manual transmission vehicles
- Basic vehicle maintenance and mechanical knowledge is an added advantage
