Job Overview

This role supports OceanMind’s mission to advance sustainable marine resource management in Somalia’s coastal regions. The Marine Spatial Planning Analyst will work directly with local authorities, fishing cooperatives, and environmental stakeholders to design and implement data-driven marine zoning strategies. This position is ideal for professionals passionate about ocean conservation and economic development in emerging markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct spatial analysis of marine ecosystems, fisheries, and infrastructure using GIS tools
  • Develop stakeholder engagement plans for community consultations and policy workshops
  • Collaborate with local governments to align planning with national maritime laws
  • Produce visualizations and reports for decision-makers and international partners
  • Monitor and evaluate the environmental impact of proposed maritime projects

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar spatial analysis software
  • Strong understanding of marine ecology and fisheries management principles
  • Experience in stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution
  • Excellent data interpretation and report-writing abilities
  • li>Fluency in Somali and English

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Marine Biology, Geography, or related field
  • Master’s Degree preferred but not required

Experience

  • 3-5 years in marine spatial planning, coastal zone management, or environmental consulting
  • Previous work in Somalia or East Africa is a significant advantage

Salary

1,200,000 – 1,800,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
