Job Overview

The Program Coordinator will support the planning, implementation and monitoring of UNESCO’s education initiatives in Afmadow. This position plays a pivotal role in ensuring that project activities are delivered on time, within budget and meet the highest standards of quality and impact. The coordinator will work closely with project managers, field officers, local partners and beneficiaries to translate strategic objectives into actionable plans.

Key duties include coordinating stakeholder meetings, preparing progress reports, managing logistics for training sessions and facilitating communication between the field team and UNESCO headquarters. The role also involves data collection, analysis and reporting to inform decision‑making and demonstrate results to donors and partners.

As a central point of contact for the Afmadow education portfolio, the Program Coordinator will champion best practices, promote transparency and support the continuous improvement of program delivery. Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed work plans, timelines and budgets for education projects in Afmadow.
• Coordinate and facilitate regular meetings with government officials, NGOs, community leaders and UNESCO staff.
• Monitor project milestones, track deliverables and prepare monthly progress reports.
• Manage procurement, logistics and resource allocation for training workshops and community events.
• Collect, verify and analyze quantitative and qualitative data to assess project outcomes.
• Prepare donor reports, case studies and success stories highlighting impact.
• Support the development of monitoring and evaluation frameworks aligned with UNESCO standards.
• Ensure compliance with UNESCO policies, local regulations and donor requirements.

Required Skills

• Strong project management and organizational abilities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with fluency in English and Somali.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and data management tools.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a multicultural environment.
• Analytical mindset with experience in monitoring and evaluation.
• Knowledge of the Somali education sector and local cultural contexts.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Education, International Development, Social Sciences or a related discipline is required. Advanced degrees or certifications in project management, M&E or related fields are considered an asset.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of experience in program coordination, preferably within the education or development sector in East Africa. Experience working with international NGOs or UN agencies is highly desirable.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from SSP 2,500,000 to SSP 3,500,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Additional allowances for travel and field expenses may apply.
