Job Overview

The Satellite Communications Engineer will be responsible for the design, implementation, optimization and maintenance of satellite communication systems that support Eutelsat’s services in Somalia and the wider region. Working closely with cross‑functional teams, the engineer will ensure the reliability, performance and security of satellite links for broadcast, broadband and enterprise customers. This position plays a critical role in expanding Eutelsat’s footprint, enabling seamless connectivity for remote areas, and supporting critical infrastructure projects. Key Responsibilities

  • Design and configure satellite transponder parameters, uplink/downlink frequencies, and modulation schemes to meet service requirements.
  • Conduct link budget analysis, RF planning and interference mitigation for optimal system performance.
  • Install, commission and troubleshoot satellite earth stations, antenna systems and associated RF equipment.
  • Monitor network performance using telemetry data, identify anomalies, and implement corrective actions promptly.
  • Collaborate with vendors, regulatory bodies and local partners to ensure compliance with spectrum allocation and licensing regulations.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures and maintenance schedules.
  • Provide technical support to sales and customer service teams for solution design and issue resolution.
  • Participate in research and development initiatives to integrate emerging technologies such as high‑throughput satellites (HTS) and low‑earth‑orbit (LEO) constellations.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of satellite communications principles, RF engineering, and microwave link design.
  • Proficiency with industry tools such as SatLink, STK, and spectrum analysis software.
  • Hands‑on experience with VSAT, Ka‑band, Ku‑band and C‑band equipment.
  • Ability to interpret technical standards (ITU, ETSI) and apply them to system design.
  • Excellent problem‑solving skills and the capacity to work under pressure in remote environments.
  • Effective communication skills in English; knowledge of Somali or Arabic is an advantage.
  • Team‑oriented mindset with the ability to collaborate across multicultural teams.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as Certified Satellite Communications Professional (CSCP) or equivalent are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in satellite communications engineering, preferably within a commercial satellite operator or a major telecom service provider. Experience in the African market or with emerging economies is a strong plus.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 8,000,000 to SSP 12,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a retirement savings plan.
