Job Overview
The Senior Broadcast Engineer will play a critical role in maintaining, optimizing, and evolving our technical broadcasting infrastructure in Afgooye. This position is responsible for the end-to-end integrity of signal transmission, studio equipment, and digital playback systems. You will lead a team of technicians to ensure zero downtime during live broadcasts and high-stakes productions. This role requires a deep understanding of RF engineering, IP-based video workflows, and satellite communications. As part of our technical leadership, you will be at the forefront of employment in Somalia within the high-tech media sector, managing complex hardware and software integrations that power our content delivery networks. You will act as the primary technical point of contact for all studio operations, ensuring that every frame of video and every bit of audio meets our rigorous global quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain advanced broadcast signal paths and transmission systems.
- Oversee the maintenance of studio cameras, lighting consoles, and audio mixing desks.
- Manage IP-based media workflows and ensure seamless integration between traditional SDI and modern NDI/ST 2110 standards.
- Troubleshoot complex hardware and software failures in real-time during live broadcast windows.
- Lead the migration of legacy analog systems to fully digital, cloud-integrated broadcast environments.
- Coordinate with satellite uplink providers to ensure stable signal delivery to regional networks.
- Develop and implement rigorous preventative maintenance schedules for all critical broadcast infrastructure.
- Supervise and mentor junior technical staff to foster a culture of technical excellence.
Required Skills
- Expertise in RF (Radio Frequency) engineering and satellite communication protocols.
- Advanced knowledge of video compression standards (H.264, HEVC) and digital signal processing.
- Proficiency in managing large-scale IP networks specifically optimized for media traffic.
- Strong analytical skills for diagnosing complex electrical and electronic faults.
- Ability to work under extreme pressure during live television production environments.
- Excellent project management skills for overseeing large-scale technical installations.
- Strong communication skills to bridge the gap between creative producers and technical teams.
Education
Candidates must possess a minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Broadcast Technology, or a closely related technical field. Advanced certifications in Cisco Networking (CCNA/CCNP) or specialized broadcast engineering credentials from recognized international bodies are highly preferred.
Experience
A minimum of 7 years of professional experience in a high-pressure broadcast environment is mandatory. Proven experience in managing large-scale media infrastructure, leading technical teams, and executing complex system upgrades is essential. Salary
