Job Overview

The Structural Steel Detailing Engineer will be responsible for producing detailed fabrication and erection drawings for steel structures used in commercial, industrial, and residential projects. Reporting to the Lead Structural Engineer, you will translate design concepts into precise, constructible models, ensuring compliance with international codes and local regulations. This position plays a critical role in delivering projects on time and within budget, directly influencing the quality and safety of construction outcomes. Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed 2D and 3D steel detailing models using software such as Tekla Structures or SDS/2.
• Prepare fabrication, shop, and erection drawings that meet project specifications and industry standards.
• Coordinate with structural designers, project managers, and site engineers to resolve design conflicts and optimize constructability.
• Conduct clash detection and ensure accurate material take‑offs for cost estimation.
• Review and approve shop drawings submitted by subcontractors, ensuring compliance with quality and safety requirements.
• Maintain up‑to‑date documentation and revision control throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support the procurement team by providing accurate bill of materials and technical specifications.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in steel detailing software (Tekla, SDS/2, or equivalent).
• Strong understanding of international steel design codes (AISC, Eurocode) and local building regulations.
• Excellent problem‑solving abilities and attention to detail.
• Effective communication skills for cross‑functional collaboration.
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines.
• Knowledge of BIM workflows and integration with Revit or Navisworks.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field is required. Professional certifications in steel detailing or BIM management are considered an advantage.

Experience

Minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in structural steel detailing for large‑scale construction projects, preferably within the East African region. Prior exposure to international standards and multilingual project environments is highly valued.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from SSP 5,000,000 to SSP 8,000,000 per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives and allowances aligned with company policy.
