Job Overview

The Senior Drilling Engineer will lead the planning, execution, and optimization of drilling operations for TotalEnergies’ upcoming offshore and onshore projects in the Dhuusamareeb region. Reporting to the Drilling Manager, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, ensure compliance with international safety standards, and drive cost‑effective drilling solutions. This position plays a critical role in achieving project milestones, maintaining operational excellence, and supporting the broader objectives of Energy & Oil development in Somalia.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop detailed drilling programs, well designs, and operational procedures in line with project specifications.
  • Coordinate with geologists, reservoir engineers, and HSE specialists to ensure well integrity and safety.
  • Manage drilling contractors, service providers, and equipment logistics to meet schedule and budget targets.
  • Monitor real‑time drilling parameters, analyze data, and implement corrective actions to optimize performance.
  • Conduct risk assessments, hazard analyses, and ensure compliance with local regulations and TotalEnergies’ global standards.
  • Prepare technical reports, progress updates, and cost forecasts for senior management.
  • Mentor junior engineers and support knowledge transfer to local staff.
  • Participate in community outreach programs to promote safe drilling practices and environmental awareness.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of drilling engineering principles, well control, and mud engineering.
  • Proficiency with drilling software tools such as WellPlan, Landmark, or equivalent.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Effective communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to work in challenging field environments and adapt to dynamic project needs.
  • Commitment to health, safety, and environmental (HSE) excellence.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Petroleum Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications such as IADC WellSharp, API drilling standards, or a Master’s degree are considered a strong advantage.

Experience

Minimum of eight (8) years of progressive experience in drilling engineering, with at least three (3) years in a senior or lead role on offshore or onshore projects. Demonstrated experience managing drilling contractors and delivering projects within budget and schedule is essential.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from 30,000,000 to 45,000,000 Somali Shillings (SSP) per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based incentives, health insurance, and pension contributions.
