Job Overview

This role is ideal for a dynamic professional passionate about advancing media standards in Somalia. The Media Development Specialist will design and implement capacity-building initiatives for local journalists, radio stations, and digital media platforms. The position emphasizes fostering inclusive storytelling, promoting digital literacy, and enhancing media safety protocols for female reporters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver training programs on investigative journalism, data-driven reporting, and ethical standards
  • Collaborate with Somali media outlets to improve content quality and audience engagement
  • Coordinate workshops on digital security, online harassment prevention, and social media strategy
  • Monitor and report on media landscape trends, identifying opportunities for innovation and growth
  • Partner with international media organizations to share best practices and resources

Required Skills

  • Proven experience in media development or journalism training
  • Strong understanding of Somali media ecosystem and cultural context
  • Fluency in Somali and English; proficiency in Arabic is an asset
  • Excellent project management and cross-cultural communication skills
  • Ability to work independently in challenging environments

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Media Studies, Communications, or related field
  • Postgraduate qualification in Journalism or Media Management preferred

Experience

  • Minimum 3 years in media development, journalism, or communications
  • Experience working in conflict-affected or post-conflict regions
  • History of designing and implementing media training programs

Salary

1,500,000 – 2,000,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
