Job Overview
This role is ideal for a dynamic professional passionate about advancing media standards in Somalia. The Media Development Specialist will design and implement capacity-building initiatives for local journalists, radio stations, and digital media platforms. The position emphasizes fostering inclusive storytelling, promoting digital literacy, and enhancing media safety protocols for female reporters.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver training programs on investigative journalism, data-driven reporting, and ethical standards
- Collaborate with Somali media outlets to improve content quality and audience engagement
- Coordinate workshops on digital security, online harassment prevention, and social media strategy
- Monitor and report on media landscape trends, identifying opportunities for innovation and growth
- Partner with international media organizations to share best practices and resources
Required Skills
- Proven experience in media development or journalism training
- Strong understanding of Somali media ecosystem and cultural context
- Fluency in Somali and English; proficiency in Arabic is an asset
- Excellent project management and cross-cultural communication skills
- Ability to work independently in challenging environments
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Media Studies, Communications, or related field
- Postgraduate qualification in Journalism or Media Management preferred
Experience
- Minimum 3 years in media development, journalism, or communications
- Experience working in conflict-affected or post-conflict regions
- History of designing and implementing media training programs
Salary
1,500,000 – 2,000,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications.
