Job Overview

The Port Operations Manager will oversee all daily activities at the Berbera port terminal, ensuring efficient cargo handling, compliance with international safety standards, and seamless coordination with shipping lines, customs authorities, and inland transport providers. Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise port operations teams, including stevedores, yard managers, and equipment technicians.
• Monitor vessel arrivals and departures, coordinating berth allocation and cargo loading plans.
• Ensure compliance with safety, security, and environmental regulations, conducting regular audits.
• Optimize terminal productivity through data‑driven scheduling and resource allocation.
• Manage relationships with shipping agents, customs officials, and inland logistics partners.
• Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives to reduce dwell time and operational costs.
• Prepare operational reports, KPI dashboards, and incident investigations for senior management.

Required Skills

• Strong leadership and team‑management abilities.
• In‑depth knowledge of port terminal equipment, cargo handling procedures, and maritime regulations.
• Excellent analytical skills with proficiency in logistics software and ERP systems.

• Fluency in English; knowledge of Arabic or Somali is an advantage.

Education

The successful candidate must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain Management, Maritime Studies, Business Administration, or a related discipline. Advanced certifications such as Certified Port Professional (CPP) or International Maritime Organization (IMO) courses are highly desirable.

Experience

A minimum of five years’ experience in port operations, terminal management, or large‑scale logistics environments is required. Prior experience in a multinational shipping company or exposure to East African trade corridors will be considered a strong asset.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from 8,000,000 to 12,000,000 Somali Shillings (SSP) per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances are also part of the compensation package.
