Job Overview

The Renewable Energy Project Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and optimization of renewable energy installations, primarily focusing on solar and wind power solutions for industrial and community applications in Somalia. Reporting to the Regional Engineering Manager, you will coordinate with cross‑functional teams, local authorities, and international partners to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the full project lifecycle for solar and wind installations, from feasibility studies to commissioning.
  • Develop detailed engineering designs, specifications, and technical documentation in compliance with local regulations and Caterpillar standards.
  • Coordinate procurement, logistics, and installation activities with suppliers, contractors, and local stakeholders.
  • Conduct site assessments, resource modeling, and performance simulations to optimize system efficiency.
  • Manage project schedules, budgets, and risk registers, providing regular status reports to senior management.
  • Ensure health, safety, and environmental (HSE) compliance throughout all project phases.
  • Collaborate with the sales and business development teams to identify new opportunities and support client proposals.
  • Provide technical training and mentorship to junior engineers and local technicians.
  • Monitor post‑installation performance, troubleshoot issues, and recommend upgrades or maintenance plans.

Required Skills

  • Strong knowledge of renewable energy technologies, especially solar PV and wind turbine systems.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software such as AutoCAD, PVSyst, or SAM.
  • Excellent project management abilities, including scheduling, budgeting, and risk mitigation.
  • Effective communication skills for interfacing with clients, government agencies, and multicultural teams.
  • Problem‑solving mindset with a focus on innovative, cost‑effective solutions.
  • Familiarity with Somali regulatory frameworks and permitting processes for energy projects.
  • Ability to work in challenging field environments and travel frequently across Somalia.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as PMP, PE, or a recognized renewable energy credential (e.g., NABCEP) are highly desirable.

Experience

Applicants must have 5‑7 years of hands‑on experience in renewable energy project engineering, preferably within emerging markets. Demonstrated success in delivering multi‑MW solar or wind projects from concept to operation is essential.

Salary
