Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Petroleum Geologist to lead our subsurface exploration efforts in the Burao region. This role is critical to our long-term strategic goals in the region, involving the interpretation of complex geological data to identify potential hydrocarbon reservoirs. The successful candidate will work closely with our geophysics and drilling teams to minimize exploration risk and maximize resource recovery. This is a high-impact role that requires a deep understanding of sedimentary basin analysis, seismic interpretation, and reservoir characterization. As we expand our footprint, this position will play a pivotal role in shaping our exploration strategy in the Horn of Africa.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead complex seismic interpretation and geological modeling to identify new drilling targets.
  • Perform detailed basin analysis and stratigraphic correlation to understand regional petroleum systems.
  • Collaborate with reservoir engineers to integrate geological models with fluid flow simulations.
  • Supervise junior geologists and provide technical mentorship during field and office operations.
  • Prepare and present high-level technical reports for executive management and stakeholders.
  • Ensure all exploration activities comply with international environmental and safety standards.

Required Skills

  • Advanced proficiency in Petrel, Kingdom, or similar seismic interpretation software.
  • Expertise in 3D/4D seismic data analysis and structural geological modeling.
  • Strong understanding of petroleum system elements including source, reservoir, seal, and trap.
  • Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills in complex geological settings.
  • Excellent communication skills for presenting technical data to non-technical stakeholders.

Education

A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Petroleum Geoscience, Structural Geology, or a closely related Earth Science discipline is required. A PhD is highly preferred for this senior-level position.

Experience

Candidates must possess at least 8 years of professional experience in petroleum exploration, specifically within offshore or complex onshore sedimentary basins. Proven track record of successful well placement and reservoir characterization is essential. Experience working in East African geological settings is a significant advantage.

Salary

The offered salary for this position ranges from 4,500,000 SSP to 7,500,000 SSP, depending on experience and technical expertise. This is a competitive package designed to attract the best talent in the industry.
