Job Overview

This role is part of UNICEF’s mission to strengthen water resource management in Somalia. The Water Resource Management Specialist will lead projects to assess, monitor, and optimize water distribution systems in rural and urban areas. Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct field assessments of water sources, infrastructure, and usage patterns in Baidoa and surrounding regions.
  • Develop and implement water resource management plans aligned with national and international sustainability goals.
  • Collaborate with local authorities and communities to design rainwater harvesting and groundwater recharge systems.
  • Monitor water quality and quantity using GIS and remote sensing technologies.
  • Provide technical guidance to stakeholders on sustainable water use practices.

Required Skills

  • Proven expertise in water resource planning and management.
  • Proficiency in hydrological modeling software (e.g., HEC-HMS, SWAT).
  • Strong analytical skills for data interpretation and reporting.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.
  • Experience working in low-resource environments preferred.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Water Resource Management, Civil Engineering, or related field.
  • Master’s Degree an asset.

Experience

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of professional experience in water resource management or environmental engineering.
  • Experience in Somalia or other East African countries is advantageous.

Salary

SSP 1,500,000 – 2,000,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
