Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Hydrological Modeling Specialist to lead our advanced modeling initiatives in the region. This role is pivotal in translating complex environmental data into actionable water management strategies. You will be responsible for developing, calibrating, and maintaining sophisticated mathematical models that simulate groundwater flow, surface water runoff, and aquifer recharge rates. Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement complex 3D groundwater flow models using MODFLOW or similar industry-standard software.
- Analyze historical rainfall and river discharge data to predict seasonal water availability.
- Collaborate with field technicians to design and oversee groundwater monitoring well installations.
- Produce high-quality technical reports and spatial maps for government stakeholders and international donors.
- Lead multidisciplinary teams in assessing the impact of climate change on local aquifers.
- Integrate remote sensing and satellite imagery into hydrological predictive models.
- Provide technical oversight for large-scale water infrastructure projects in the region.
Required Skills
- Advanced proficiency in numerical modeling software such as MODFLOW, FEFLOW, or SWAT.
- Expertise in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and spatial data analysis.
- Strong mathematical foundation in fluid mechanics and hydrogeology.
- Exceptional technical writing skills for scientific publication and policy briefs.
- Ability to manage complex datasets from diverse environmental sensors.
- Strong leadership skills to mentor junior hydrologists and field staff.
Education
A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Geosciences, or a closely related field is mandatory. A PhD in a specialized hydrological field is highly preferred and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Candidates must demonstrate at least 7 years of professional experience in hydrological modeling or water resource management. Proven experience working in arid or semi-arid environments is highly desirable. Previous experience in a senior or lead role within an international development or environmental research organization is preferred. Salary
