Job Overview

The Water Resources Project Engineer will lead the design, implementation, and monitoring of water supply and treatment projects in Somaliland and broader Somalia. Reporting to the Regional Engineering Manager, you will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, local stakeholders, and international partners to ensure projects meet technical, regulatory, and sustainability standards. Key Responsibilities

• Develop detailed engineering designs for water intake, treatment, distribution, and storage facilities.
• Conduct feasibility studies, hydraulic modeling, and water balance analyses to optimize project performance.
• Coordinate with local authorities, NGOs, and community leaders to secure permits, align project goals, and ensure social acceptance.
• Oversee procurement, construction supervision, and commissioning activities, ensuring compliance with Veolia’s quality and safety standards.
• Implement monitoring and data‑collection protocols to assess water quality, system efficiency, and environmental impact.
• Prepare technical reports, cost estimates, and progress updates for senior management and donors.
• Provide technical training and capacity‑building workshops for local engineers and operators.

Required Skills

• Proficiency in water resources software such as EPANET, HEC‑RAS, or SWMM.
• Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret hydrological data and perform risk assessments.
• Excellent project management abilities, including scheduling, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination.
• Effective communication skills in English; knowledge of Somali or Arabic is an advantage.
• Commitment to sustainable practices and familiarity with international water quality standards (WHO, ISO 24510).

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in water treatment, project management (PMP), or sustainability are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.

Experience

Candidates should have 3‑5 years of hands‑on experience designing, constructing, or managing water supply and treatment projects, preferably in emerging markets or challenging environments. Experience working with NGOs, donor agencies, or government bodies in the water sector will strengthen your application.

Salary

The position offers a competitive salary ranging from 8,000,000 to 12,000,000 SSP per month, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Performance‑based bonuses and allowances for field travel may be included.
