Job Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Hydrological Modeler to lead our computational modeling division in Dhusamareeb. This role is critical to our mission of predicting groundwater movement and surface water fluctuations in response to climate variability. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing complex mathematical models that simulate hydrological processes, providing essential data for regional water policy and infrastructure design. This is a high-impact role that requires a deep understanding of fluid dynamics, soil mechanics, and advanced numerical modeling software. Key Responsibilities

  • Analyze large-scale datasets from satellite imagery and telemetry-equipped monitoring wells.
  • Collaborate with field technicians to validate model predictions against real-world observations.
  • Produce high-level technical reports and visualizations for government officials and international donors.
  • Lead the implementation of new remote sensing technologies for real-time hydrological monitoring.
  • Mentor junior hydrologists and data analysts within the regional research team.

Required Skills

  • Expert proficiency in numerical modeling software such as MODFLOW, FEFLOW, or GSFLOW.
  • Advanced statistical analysis skills and experience with Python, R, or MATLAB for data processing.
  • Deep understanding of Darcy’s Law and complex groundwater-surface water interactions.
  • Exceptional technical writing skills for producing peer-reviewed level reports.
  • Strong project management capabilities and ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ability to work effectively in diverse, multicultural environments.

Education

A minimum of a Master’s Degree in Hydrology, Water Resources Engineering, Geosciences, or a closely related field is required. A PhD with a focus on computational hydrogeology is highly preferred. Candidates must demonstrate a strong academic background in fluid mechanics and mathematical modeling.

Experience

Applicants must possess at least 7 years of professional experience in hydrological modeling, preferably within an international development or environmental consulting context. Proven experience in managing large-scale water resource projects and working with remote sensing data is essential. Experience working in East Africa or similar arid/semi-arid environments is a significant advantage.

Salary
