Job Overview
The Data Center Operations Manager will lead the day‑to‑day operations of Dell’s new Borama facility, ensuring optimal performance, security, and availability of all infrastructure components. This role is pivotal for delivering reliable services to clients across Somalia and the wider East African region. Key Responsibilities
- Oversee all aspects of data center operations, including power, cooling, networking, and hardware maintenance.
- Develop and enforce operational SOPs, ensuring compliance with industry standards such as ISO 27001 and Uptime Institute Tier certifications.
- Manage a multidisciplinary team of technicians, engineers, and support staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and continuous learning.
- Coordinate with Dell’s global engineering teams to plan and execute hardware upgrades, capacity expansions, and technology refresh cycles.
- Monitor performance metrics, conduct root‑cause analysis of incidents, and implement corrective actions to minimize downtime.
- Ensure robust physical and cyber security controls, including access management, video surveillance, and intrusion detection systems.
- Maintain detailed documentation of infrastructure configurations, change logs, and compliance reports.
- Collaborate with sales and client success teams to align service delivery with customer SLAs and expectations.
- Prepare and present regular operational reports to senior leadership, highlighting key performance indicators and risk assessments.
- Lead emergency response drills and business continuity planning to safeguard critical services.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of data center infrastructure, including power distribution, HVAC, and networking.
- Proficiency with monitoring tools such as Dell OpenManage, Nagios, or SolarWinds.
- Experience managing budgets, vendor contracts, and procurement processes.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management abilities.
- Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and make data‑driven decisions.
- Familiarity with regulatory compliance frameworks relevant to Somalia and the broader region.
- Hands‑on technical expertise in server hardware, storage systems, and virtualization platforms.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical Engineering, or a related field is required. Professional certifications such as Cisco CCNA/CCNP, VMware VCP, or ITIL are highly desirable and will be considered an advantage during the selection process.
Experience
Applicants must have a minimum of five years of progressive experience in data center operations, with at least two years in a supervisory or managerial capacity. Experience in emerging markets, especially within East Africa, is a strong plus, as is a demonstrated track record of implementing efficiency improvements and cost‑saving initiatives.
Salary
The compensation package ranges from SSP 8,000,000 to SSP 12,000,000 annually, commensurate with experience and qualifications. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a comprehensive retirement plan.
