Job Overview

The Environmental Impact Analyst will lead comprehensive assessments for Conservation International’s projects in Barawa and surrounding regions. This position involves evaluating potential environmental effects of development activities, preparing impact statements, and recommending mitigation measures that align with both international standards and Somali regulatory frameworks. The analyst will collaborate with project managers, local authorities, and community representatives to ensure that all interventions promote ecological integrity and sustainable livelihoods. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct baseline environmental studies, including flora and fauna surveys, water quality testing, and habitat mapping.
• Prepare detailed Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) and Environmental Management Plans (EMPs) for proposed projects.
• Engage with local communities, NGOs, and government agencies to gather input and address concerns.
• Monitor and report on the implementation of mitigation measures, ensuring compliance with national regulations and international best practices.
• Develop and present technical reports, briefing notes, and stakeholder presentations in clear, actionable language.
• Support grant writing and fundraising efforts by providing scientific evidence of project impact.
• Stay updated on emerging environmental policies, climate change trends, and conservation technologies relevant to Somalia.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in GIS, remote sensing, and statistical software.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English; knowledge of Somali is highly advantageous.
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple assessments under tight deadlines.
• Experience in stakeholder engagement and community‑based conservation approaches.
• Familiarity with Somali environmental legislation and international EIA guidelines.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Geography, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field is required. A Master’s degree or relevant certifications (e.g., NEPA, ISO 14001) are considered a strong asset and may enhance candidacy for future advancement.

Experience

Applicants should have 3‑5 years of professional experience conducting environmental assessments, preferably within the East African context. Experience working on coastal or marine projects, climate adaptation initiatives, or community‑driven conservation programs will be highly valued.

Salary

The position offers a competitive monthly salary ranging from SSP 1,200,000 to SSP 2,000,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications. Salary reviews are conducted annually based on performance and organizational budget.
