Job Overview

The Industrial Maintenance Planner will be responsible for developing, coordinating, and optimizing maintenance schedules for Caterpillar’s heavy machinery fleet operating in Somalia and neighboring regions. This position plays a critical role in ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and supporting the company’s commitment to safety and operational excellence. The planner will collaborate closely with field technicians, supply chain partners, and engineering teams to create detailed work orders, manage spare parts inventory, and monitor key performance indicators. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain preventive and corrective maintenance plans for a diverse portfolio of heavy equipment.

• Analyze equipment failure data to identify trends and recommend improvements to maintenance strategies.
• Manage spare parts inventory levels, forecast demand, and liaise with suppliers to ensure timely availability.

• Collaborate with engineering and quality teams to implement reliability‑centered maintenance initiatives.

Required Skills

• Strong analytical abilities with proficiency in maintenance planning software (e.g., CMMS, SAP PM).
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective coordination across multidisciplinary teams.
• In‑depth knowledge of heavy equipment components, failure modes, and repair techniques.
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and service manuals.
• Project management experience, including scheduling, budgeting, and resource allocation.

• Fluency in English; knowledge of Somali is an advantage.

Education

A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a closely related discipline is required. Professional certifications such as Certified Maintenance & Reliability Professional (CMRP) or equivalent are highly desirable and will be considered an asset during the selection process.

Experience

Applicants must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in maintenance planning or reliability engineering within a heavy equipment manufacturing or mining environment. Prior exposure to Caterpillar’s product lines or similar OEM equipment will be viewed favorably. Experience working in East Africa, particularly in challenging logistics settings, is a strong plus.

Salary

The compensation package ranges from 3,500,000 to 5,000,000 Somali Shilling (SSP) per year, commensurate with experience, qualifications, and performance. The package includes performance‑based bonuses, health insurance, and a retirement savings plan.
