Job Overview
The Network Planning Engineer will play a pivotal role in designing, optimizing, and implementing next‑generation mobile and fixed‑line networks across Somalia, with a focus on the strategic coastal region of Eyl. Key Responsibilities
- Develop detailed radio access network (RAN) and core network designs based on traffic forecasts, geographic data, and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform site surveys, drive tests, and propagation modeling to validate network plans and ensure optimal coverage.
- Collaborate with RF engineers, civil teams, and vendors to coordinate equipment deployment and integration.
- Generate technical specifications, bill of materials, and cost estimates for network rollout projects.
- Analyze performance metrics post‑deployment and propose optimization strategies to improve throughput and latency.
- Provide technical support during network commissioning, acceptance testing, and handover to operations.
- Maintain up‑to‑date documentation, including network topology diagrams, configuration files, and project reports.
Required Skills
- Strong knowledge of LTE, 5G NR, and IP‑based core network technologies.
- Proficiency with planning tools such as Atoll, Planet, or iBwave.
- Excellent analytical and problem‑solving abilities, with a data‑driven approach.
- Effective communication skills for interfacing with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory bodies.
- Ability to work independently in remote locations and manage multiple project timelines.
- Familiarity with Somali telecom regulations and spectrum allocation policies is a plus.
Education
A Bachelor’s degree in Telecommunications Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a closely related discipline is required. Advanced certifications in network planning, such as Huawei Certified Network Planning Engineer (HCNPE) or equivalent, are highly desirable.
Experience
Candidates must have a minimum of five years of hands‑on experience in telecom network planning, design, and optimization, preferably within emerging markets. Experience with end‑to‑end project delivery, from concept through commercial launch, will be considered a strong advantage.
Salary
