Job Overview

We are seeking a highly qualified Senior Environmental Impact Specialist to lead our environmental assessment and mitigation strategies in the Shabelle region. This role is critical for ensuring that development projects within the area align with international conservation standards and local ecological needs. The successful candidate will conduct complex environmental impact assessments (EIAs), monitor biodiversity trends, and advise on sustainable land-use practices. Key Responsibilities

• Lead comprehensive Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for large-scale infrastructure and agricultural projects.
• Develop and implement mitigation strategies to minimize the ecological footprint of local development initiatives.
• Monitor and report on biodiversity trends and ecosystem health within the designated conservation zones.
• Collaborate with local government agencies to ensure compliance with national environmental regulations.
• Provide technical expertise to community stakeholders regarding sustainable resource management and climate adaptation.
• Draft detailed scientific reports for international donors and regional stakeholders.

Required Skills

• Advanced proficiency in GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and spatial data analysis.
• Expert knowledge of environmental regulatory frameworks and international conservation standards.
• Strong scientific research and quantitative data analysis capabilities.
• Exceptional technical writing and reporting skills in English.
• Proven ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships in diverse cultural settings.

Education

A Master’s degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, Conservation Biology, or a closely related field is mandatory. A PhD in a specialized ecological field is highly preferred. Candidates must demonstrate a strong academic background in environmental modeling and impact assessment methodologies.

Experience

Applicants must possess a minimum of seven years of professional experience in environmental management, impact assessment, or conservation science. Proven experience working in East Africa or within complex ecological landscapes is essential. Experience in leading multidisciplinary teams and managing large-scale environmental projects is highly desirable for this senior-level position.

Salary

The monthly salary for this position ranges from 4,500,000 SSP to 6,200,000 SSP, depending on the candidate’s expertise and technical qualifications. This package is competitive and reflects the seniority of the role.
